Optimizing Large Format Print Job Files To Lower File Size
Our website has a 500 MB per-file upload limit. To ensure smooth uploads and faster processing, we recommend optimizing your files before submitting. Below are best practices for keeping files print-ready and within size limits.
1. Resolution Guidelines
- For large format printing (posters, banners, signage, etc.), set resolution to 150 DPI at final size.
- Higher resolutions (300 dpi or above) don’t improve print quality when viewed from a normal distance, but will significantly increase file size.
- Example: A 36″ Ă— 48″ poster at 300 dpi can be over 1 GB, while the same file at 150 DPI may be under 200 MB.
2. Flatten Layers
- Merge all visible layers in Photoshop.
- In Illustrator, use Object → Flatten Transparency if the design contains many layered effects.
- Flattened files are smaller, render faster, and reduce risks of missing elements during print.
3. Convert Fonts to Outlines
- Outlining text prevents font embedding and avoids font substitution issues.
- In Illustrator: Select All → Type → Create Outlines.
- In Photoshop: Rasterize text layers before flattening.
4. Remove Extra Elements
- Delete hidden or unused layers.
- Clean up objects outside the artboard or bleed area.
- Remove stray points, swatches, and unused symbols.
